Ethics of Animal Research - An online course

Animal experimentation is the subject of intense social, scientific, legal and ethical debates. This online course introduces ethical issues of animal research that concern medicine, the natural and social sciences and which require critical reflection by these disciplines in a joint effort.

The course provides an introduction to animal research ethics, ethical theories as well as harm-benefit analysis, the basics of the legal regulation of animal experimentation and introduces the 3Rs principle.

This online course is a collaboration between UZH, ETHZ and the Messerli Research Institute and is offered via OLAT for UZH and ETHZ members.

The "Green VVZ" project aims to establish an automated service to filter out those teaching modules from UZH's course catalogue which are related to topics of sustainable development, and to improve this service continuously. The project has been carried out by students at the Department of Informatics.

Integrating Sustainability in Teaching

How to incorporate concepts of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in your teaching? The goal of ESD is to prepare students for the challenges of sustainable development through content, the methods by which it is taught, and the forms of examination. The aim of ESD is to strengthen students’ capabilities to analyze complex problems in an interdisciplinary context as well as heir competence to develop options for action independently.

Please find a selection of tools and articles on ESD on this page. The list is not exhaustive; new information is added on an ongoing basis.
