Storytelling for Digital Transformation (10SMSTS-605)
Description
Communicating complex, abstract concepts is a major challenge of the digital era, yet essential for enabling meaningful participation in the digital economy, democracy, and society. Storytelling offers a powerful way to translate complex ideas into relatable, engaging narratives, helping to address the widespread lack of digital literacy. In this course, we will equip students with communication skills to enable others to make informed decisions. Drawing on examples from tech journalism, digital literacy campaigns, and science communication, we show how these fields play a crucial role in enabling the public to critically evaluate the opportunities and risks of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies, and social media. Using cybersecurity—often perceived as a technical and intimidating field—as a case study, students will learn how to craft their own compelling stories around a digital topic of their choice.
