Would you like to learn how to convey knowledge effectively and engagingly, and how to support others in their learning process? The Start! Teaching for Students modules will provide you with didactic essentials to help you become actively and successfully involved in teaching. Whether as a tutor at university or in a teaching role as profession or in your free time, the skills you acquire will help you design the process of knowledge transfer in a conscious and motivating way. We will introduce techniques to help you reach your target audiences as effectively as possible, from the planning stage through to implementation. 
This module is therefore ideal for anyone who wants to explore teaching and knowledge transfer in a hands-on, practical way!

Start! Teaching Essentials (10SMSTS-500)

Description

This module provides an introduction to didactic fundamentals. You will learn how to present knowledge in an engaging way and how to support others in their learning processes. You will reflect on your skills as a knowledge facilitator and on the key tasks involved in teaching. The module is ideal as preparation for working as a tutor at university or for students who wish to acquire didactic competences. 

The module consists of an online course on OLAT, which is completed independently and asynchronously. This self-study course is complemented by a three-hour synchronous workshop (either online or in person) that offers opportunities for exchange and for deepening the topics learned. 

The OLAT course is divided into five sections: 

  1. Introduction – Identifying your position and role 
  2. Feedback and assessment 
  3. Presenting and personal presence 
  4. Lesson planning and student engagement 
  5. Online teaching

Start! Practice your Teaching (10SMSTS-501)

This module is only offered in German.

Description

This module offers an opportunity to deepen and actively practice specific didactic topics such as gamification, science communication, presentation skills, or creating teaching materials. These topics are provided either as synchronous workshops (one-day on-site) or as asynchronous self-learning units on OLAT. To complete the module, students must attend two synchronous (on-site) workshops and complete one asynchronous self-learning unit from the rotating semester offerings. Important information: This module will only be offered in German.
