Inter- and Transdisciplinary Teaching in Higher Education: Concepts, Methods, and Practice
Major challenges of our time (e.g. climate change, migration, digital transformation) are increasingly shaping research and thus influence teaching as well. Addressing these issues in Higher Education forms a central foundation for equipping our graduates for their future careers.
At the same time, such complex and open-ended problems place particular demands on lecturers and students. Due to their complexity, these « wicked problems » cannot be adequately addressed from an isolated disciplinary perspective. Rather, it is necessary to integrate knowledge from different disciplines as well as practical expertise in order to grasp topics holistically and develop viable, sustainable solutions.
In this context, the course demonstrates, how inter- and transdisciplinary teaching can be structured at a comprehensive university such as the University of Zurich, and conveys key objectives, prerequisites and methodological approaches.
